How to adapt and maintain hearing aids

When you first wear a hearing aid, there may be many maladjustments. You should learn to use it for a while. I’d like to briefly introduce a few steps to adapt to hearing aids.

1. Transition from a quiet environment to a noisy one. In a quiet environment, listen to various background sounds and try to distinguish each one.

2. Gradually increase the wearing time. At the beginning, it can be worn for a short time. When the patient feels uncomfortable, he can take it off for a rest. Gradually increase time until you wear it all day. It will take about a month to adapt.

3. The volume is from small to large. At the beginning, the volume should not be too large to prevent the patient’s ears from suddenly amplifying the sound to produce discomfort, especially the traditional hearing aids should pay more attention to this problem. The volume can be gradually increased to allow the patient to adapt. Generally, it is recommended to start to adapt slowly from the third gain.

The most important thing for hearing aid maintenance is to keep it dry and dust-proof.

The first is drying. Remove the hearing aid before going to bed every day and put it into a special drying oven for dehumidification. The purpose of dehumidification is to prevent sweat and moisture from entering the microphone inlet or entering the internal circuit of the program switch. One microphone is damped and the program switch is short circuited, causing a fault. Usually, we should not talk to the patient too close to the hearing aid, especially the microphone, so it is easy to get damp. The second is dust prevention. Try not to go to places with more smoke and dust. Use clean hands to open and close the battery compartment or switch of hearing aid. Pay attention to the cleaning of the shell. Wipe it gently with a cotton swab. Do not use any solvent or water. The third is the use of batteries. With new batteries, you can’t use batteries without quality assurance or mercury batteries. The unused battery should be taken out and checked every day. If it changes color or leaks, it should be stopped immediately and replaced with a new battery. Depending on the power of the hearing aid and the patient’s hearing loss, the hearing aid battery should be replaced immediately when it expires. When loading and unloading the battery, pay attention to the direction and strength of the electrode to avoid damaging the battery compartment or the battery electrode.
