A qualified hearing aid shall at least consider the following six performance indexes:

① frequency range. The frequency range of low range hearing aids shall be at least 300-3000Hz, that of ordinary hearing aids shall be 4000Hz, and that of advanced hearing aids shall be 80-8000hz.

② maximum sound output or saturated sound pressure level (SSPL). It actually represents the maximum power output of the hearing aid. When using hearing aids, the maximum sound output should be lower than the discomfort threshold of the affected ear, especially for the positive ears, the maximum sound output must be controlled to protect the affected ear.

③ maximum sound gain. It mainly represents the amplification capacity of hearing aids. The gain of hearing aids produced in various countries is mostly between 30 and 80 dB. Generally speaking, the hearing aids with small gain should be selected for those with light deafness, and the hearing aids with medium or large gain should be selected for those with heavy deafness. In specific use, the hearing aid is equipped with a volume adjustment switch to make the sound gain change within a certain range. The most simple method is to adjust the gain compensation of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz audio according to the pure tone audiogram. It is better to adjust the gain compensation of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz audio according to half or a little more of the threshold value, and more satisfactory results can be obtained.

④ frequency response and tone adjustment. In order to meet the hearing requirements of deaf people, hearing aids should provide different frequency responses, which means different tones in hearing. In order to make the frequency response of hearing aids more in line with the characteristics of hearing loss of the deaf, some different tones are set on the tone adjusting knob, usually l represents bass, n is normal, and H is treble.

⑤ signal to noise ratio (s / N). The amplified output of hearing aid headphones is always the simultaneous presence of language signal and annoying noise. The larger the signal noise ratio is, the better the quality of language information output is. The signal-to-noise ratio of high-quality hearing aids can reach about 40dB, which should be at least 30dB.

⑥ harmonic distortion. In order to transmit the amplified sound signal in high altitude, the distortion of the hearing aid should be as small as possible. According to the regulations, the distortion should be less than 10%, and less than 5% can basically maintain the fidelity of the language.
